About

Sweet Medicine is a space for meaningful public engagement with vital socio-cultural research in Nigeria.

The podcast is a research and advocacy project for social healing in Nigeria through research and practice in the humanities and social sciences. It explores the roles oppression, identity and conflict play in how we navigate change and build compassionate, responsible and resilient lives individually and together.

Why this project?

  • To expose the corrosive economic and social consequences of defunding education (especially the humanities and social sciences) in Africa during the 1980s Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs).
  • To highlight the brilliance and resilience of Nigerian researchers and research projects tackling the country’s unique 21st-century challenges.
  • To explore obstacles to funding solutions and ideological shifts needed to foster a thriving Humanities culture in Nigeria.
